The news from the recruiter about moving on for an interview with the hiring manager came on suddenly after no word for weeks after the initial interview. The recruiter also gave me the editorial assignment with an incredibly short turnaround time (even shorter owing to the time difference, as the hiring manager was located in Europe). The interview with the hiring manager was also scheduled for only half an hour. So both these factors rang alarm bells. The hiring manager even admitted during the interview that the "assignment" (a report that needed to be edited and cut by 700 words) was a report that he needed to work on. I believe we can all make the same conclusion here. There was no follow-up from the hiring manager or the recruiter after the second "interview."
