Just getting screened is a nightmare. The recruiter called (without notice) and left a fuzzy, incoherent voicemail regarding being “shortlisted” for a role. It took everything in me to decipher the callback extension. In my return voicemail, I noted my availability for the following day, of which the recruiter still called outside of the provided timeframe. I was able to answer and advise that while I was in a meeting (she keeps calling during work hours), I can make myself available at 3:30pm. I explicitly asked the recruiter if that time was alright with her and she confirmed and stated she’d call me at that time. She did not call. Instead, I waited 10 minutes and I called her— no response.
Please stop the antiquated recruitment tactics of unexpected screening calls. Send an email to gather availability rather than playing phone tag. Calling back-and-forth results in a growing disinterest on both sides. Makes you wonder how many great candidates are lost due to poor planning on the recruitment side.
UPDATE: She then calls me back at 6:00pm! Yes, 6:00pm. Has me lay out my whole resume (which I do), then asks me every question that has already been addressed. “Do you have warehouse training experience” … despite me walking you through my last 5 years of it. I immediately ended the call when she advised the pay rate of $22/hr. My application clearly advised 75-80k minimum.. and having a Master’s degree— what makes you think I’m working for $22/hr?
