The first call step is an introduction call (30 mins) which was in-depth and covering my experience, why I wanted to work at Gartner, why sales, and my stats.
Following this, I had a 1h video call that included similar questions along with behavioral ones. However, during the first half of this call, I was asked unexpected personal questions , such as “what are your financial goals with the salary you will be getting?” When I asked for clarification, the recruiter gave examples like “some people want to buy a house in 5 years.” I found this uncomfortable, as my personal finances felt irrelevant to assessing my skills for the role.
During the call, I discovered that my recruiter had only academic experience and no HR or recruitment background in a corporate environment prior to joining Gartner. This explained the unusual questions and the way the call was handled. Overall, while the process was fast and organized, it highlighted that even prestigious companies like Gartner sometimes hire recruiters who may not be fully qualified for interviewing candidates.
They have reached out to me for a job every year and I have interviewed with them 2 times and have never made it past the 1st interview. Confused why a recruiter reaches out to me anymore?
It was long and rigorous, often feeling extremely high pressure, with not a lot of constructive criticism. There are 5 rounds and each with a role-play. It's safe to say this is not an easy interview process. I'm not sure how they do their prospecting, but I was apparently a 'great fit' for the role - didn't show that enthusiasm during our calls.
Intensive - multiple rounds led by a recruiter. Expect 2 rounds of role play, around 4 rounds total. 2 with a recruiter, one with a lead skills expert and another panel with VPs and hiring managers.
