      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at General Motors (GM) (Austin, TX) in Mar 2026

      Interview

Ghosted after many calls and video chats - A brief story Initially the interview process went very well. The people were very approachable and likeable. The recruiter reached out and I talked to her a few times. I also spoke to people over video on two separate occasions. One was to see if I was a good fit, and the second was more technical, going through specific work examples for over two hours. Normally I think it's fine to get denials. But I found it very off-putting that after two-plus hours of interviews, it took a week for an automated message from Workday to tell me I wouldn't be continuing. The recruiter had my cell phone number, my personal email, and even made sure to connect with me on linkedin to have multiple means of contacting me throughout the process. I reached out after the interview to thank everyone for their time. Then a week later I reached out again. I'm dumbfounded that despite the personable process, they decided to cut all ties and use a mad-libs style fill-in-the-blank declination to end my candidacy. The people were great and nice to meet. I just don't know whose idea it was to end things so coldly. It put a bad taste in my mouth. I know I didn't get an offer, but I already had a job while interviewing for this position, so it was no consequence to me. I can safely say that the way things ended, I won't be looking at working at GM as a possibility in the future nor will I recommend it to others. My friends that had previously worked there and what they had told me should've been enough.
