      Coordinator Interview

      May 19, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Girl Scouts USA (New York, NY) in Apr 2022

      Interview

Hiring manager contacted me via Indeed just a few days after I applied to the position. I was pleasantly surprised at the timeliness of her response (since so many companies take weeks to just reject you, let alone offer you an interview). My interview with the hiring manager was an hour long, and she seemed perfectly nice and easygoing. The questions she asked concerned mainly my past experience; we went through my resume a bit, and discussed how my prior positions prepared me for the role I was currently interviewing for with GSUSA. However, after the interview, I never received a single communication. I followed up after a week to ask where my application stood, and never received a response. No rejection, no "sorry, we'll get back to you ASAP for next steps". Extremely unprofessional, but, unfortunately, not surprising, Honestly, my impression is that the hiring manager didn't appreciate the fact that, when she asked me what my salary expectations were, I cited a modest range that was, clearly, "too high" for them. She told me that they "could do the lower end" of the range I gave, to which I responded, "Okay, that's fine." No hard feelings, just honesty...right? Companies, but especially nonprofits, almost always choose cheaper candidates. Moral of the story: don't be afraid to ask for a salary that reflects your experience (in my case, over five years), and err on the side of caution when you come across a job listing that lacks information about the salary they're offering. It's 2022; workers are not going to settle for antiquated hiring/management practices!

      Interview

Unclear- recruiter was very positive but then mixed messages, missed outreach when told to expect connects, odd interview process. Not a win overall. Was hopeful about org but seems it has morphed from roots.
