      Associate Interview

      Oct 25, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Salt Lake City, UT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Goldman Sachs (Salt Lake City, UT) in Sep 2020

      Interview

Was contacted by a recruiter on LinkedIn recruiting for a position in SLC. Needless to say, was surprised I was solicited because in the past I applied to numerous positions and never was contacted. So after my brief interview with this recruiter, I was then submitted for consideration. Long story short, interviewed with the Tax Operations team all (5) of them but internally I knew I would not be a fit. Firstly, there was no diversity nor personality coupled with character. Everyone looked the same. Second, my background and expertise was too advanced for a menial Associate level role but was desperate to leave my existing employer so entertained the idea of interviewing. Third, one of the interviewers asked me why there is a gap in my employment history which I deemed redundant if I have been employed for almost 3 yrs in my current position plus not only does my resume dictate I can perform the task but if I’ve been employed for over 2 yrs in my current role why is an employment gap mentioned? Guess, he had nothing concrete to ask. Honestly, got bad vibes from the team overall as I am a minority and interviewing with them just made me think of “make America great again”. So after the interview, I told HR that culturally I wouldn’t be a fit in addition, the role presented to me during her and I exchange differs than the position I interviewed. The position I interviewed, appeared very entry level. In my opinion, high level positions are reserved for white people and the low level roles irrespective if a minority has the skill set to perform, they’ll be overlook and presented a low level “Associate” position as these roles are more or less given to us. Also for a person like me to “fit” I would have to conform in a way that my vocabulary mimics their own. So in summation, guess we all had a meeting of the minds and decided neither one of us was a “fit” for each other, thank goodness.
