      Operations Analyst Interview

      Jan 8, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Goldman Sachs in Nov 2014

      Interview

Invited to interview after filling in application form, which covered CV, basic cover letter and all grades. Whilst I was given less than 48 hours warning before the interview, I was pleased to get in some good interview practice. One on one interview with a woman in a makeshift cubicle in the cafeteria, it seemed it was a big hiring day, and therefore there was a real impetus to make an impact and be memorable. Weirdly this was the first interview I walked into and felt that the woman interviewing me was doing it for process rather than a real desire to hire anyone else. This however, had the benefit of putting me at ease, since I felt the job was already out of reach. I took the experience as a chance to perfect how I interview and really gain insight into operations.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Truthfully, I missed the mark on one of the basic questions - 'why operations'. Seemed to panic and rambled, therefore I didn't even convince myself. However, at the end of interview, I asked the woman interviewing me why she enjoys working in operations. Her answer was one that rested heavily in teamwork and her enjoyment in working with people.

      Interview

To the point people, warm attitude yet quick to the Q&A. Share background, why ops, why location? Speak well and be confident. Be prepared for a random phone call, if you miss the call prepare a good voicemail for when you call back.

Why do you want to work in operations? Why at SLC?

      Application

I interviewed at Goldman Sachs (Salt Lake City, UT)

      Interview

My Superday consisted of three back‑to‑back 20‑minute Zoom interviews. Each interviewer was warm, direct, and focused on understanding how I think, communicate, and approach operational problems. The process was well‑organized, with clear instructions and smooth transitions between meetings. Questions centered on teamwork, ownership, process improvement, and how my past experiences prepared me for Operations. Overall, it felt structured, conversational, and professionally run.

      Question 1

How do you approach solving operational problems when information is incomplete or changing?
