      Hair Stylist Interview

      Feb 7, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Deltona, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Great Clips (Deltona, FL)

      Interview

UNPROFESSIONAL! After graduating barber school, I applied in person as well as online, came into the store and met the manager. She was very nice, showed me around, and told me about the company. She said that she would have the owner contact me. A couple weeks later when I passed my exam, I still hadn't heard anything from them so I called the manager again and she said she would set up an interview. The interview was supposed to be with the owner, but when I arrived there that morning, I was told it had "slipped their mind" and had the interview with the manager instead. The manager asked me basic questions and told me what the technical interview would entail. She said that she liked me and would call soon to set up the technical. I had two friends come with me to be my models for the technical, a week later (one male for a clipper cut and one female for a long layer). When I got there, the manager told me that the owner had just gotten back from being out of town but that they might pop in later to meet me, which they didn't. While working on my "clients", the manager didn't seem to pay much attention. It was a busy day and she was cutting other clients' hair. She did briefly check both haircuts when I was done. She said that I did really well and gave me the impression that she was extremely interested in me working there. She even went so far as to state " I feel like I need you". She told me she would have the owner call me the next day to discuss putting me on the schedule and what my compensation would be. Well, of course the owner never called so a few days later I asked the manager if there were any updates and she reassured me that the owner would call eventually. Well after over a week of this I decided to call the owner directly to at least see what was going on. While on the phone with the owner, she told me that her husband had just gotten back from being out of town and that things were really busy. She told me that she would call me later that day and asked if that was the best number to reach me at. Not surprisingly, she didn't call that day so I pretty much just figured I didn't have the job. Then the next day she called me out of nowhere and said "they couldn't move forward right now because I didn't have any experience and they didn't have the time to train me right now". Overall, it was very frustrating putting in so much effort to work there and for them to be so unprofessional and by making me feel like they wanted to hire me and then not. And the fact that I never even met the owner because she was never around when she said she would be. The least they could have done was given me the courtesy of telling me sooner so that I didn't waste so much time with them.

      Interview

It was super relaxed for the most part. They mostly asked questions about my background and previous customer experience jobs. How I handled certain situations, why or why not I'd be a good fit. Standard interview stuff,

      Interview

They did an in person interview and a technical interview, it wasn't too hard of an interview process. The technical is intimidating at first but its not too bad and the manager was friendly.
