      Customer Advocate Interview

      May 20, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Gusto (San Francisco, CA) in May 2015

      Interview

Was required to video myself answering 5 generic, customer service oriented questions. As a side note, Sparkhire's low-tech site required me to have Flash installed instead of allowing me to record and upload my own high-quality videos. Sparkhire also spammed my inbox sending me multiple emails at all hours of the day and night.

Hi! Thank you for your feedback regarding the SparkHire program. ZenPayroll recently began using this interview program as a way to give candidates an opportunity to express themselves without the pressure of a phone interview: SparkHire allows applicants to take an unlimited amount of takes for their interview questions, which ZenPayroll has found to behoove many candidates. However, we appreciate your concern that there may quality issues with submissions, and we will look into this matter for future applicants. Again, thank you for your time and attention throughout this process, and we wish you the best of luck during your job search! Sincerely, Recruiting @ ZenPayroll

      Interview

the interview process was quick - i was contacted by HR to schedule a phone call - i was contacted a few days later by one of the managers in the department - questions were easy and general - contacted by HR to complete an at-home assignment, submitted assignment and i was then invited to the office for in-person interviews with four team members - spoke to each for about 20 minutes and one was solely on the company culture - found out a few days later that i received the job.

      Interview

The first thing I want to say is this: don't ever let everyone else's opinion shake you away from something. I've read a lot of negative reviews about this process and I have not felt negative about it yet, in fact it's been very timely. They keep reminding you of their "transparency" and that they believe in not wasting anyone's time. I applied through the website and was contacted the day after. I had a date and a time for a 30 minute phone chat before noon. The 30 minute chat was actually more like 45, the gentleman I was talking to was very friendly. By the end of the interview I felt really good and he said he would "talk to his team" and either he would "send me an assignment" or "let me know otherwise". Three hours later I was sent the assignment. The assignment was rigorous and I spent a great deal of time on the first question, but it was okay because the last two questions were easy to find online and through the website. I turned my assignment in, and the next morning I received an email from the same recruiter asking if I could go into the office for a 3 hour interview the next week, again stating if that at any point they felt as though the position wasn't a good fit for me it would be cut short. This interview was not intimidating and I enjoyed meeting the three gentleman. Very standard interview questions and and it's clear what kind of candidate they are looking to hire. No offer yet, but I hope to hear back from the company. All in all, I've not felt the process to be impersonal at all.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Gusto (Denver, CO) in Aug 2015

      Interview

Honestly, it was a good experience even though I did not get the job. After a phone interview they gave me an assignment which did not quite meet their standards. I do believe everything on the assignment could have easily been taught to me even though it did not come as naturally at first (I am a bad test taker!) It really caught me off guard. I wrote them asking what went wrong and the man I had been in contact with sent me an awesome email explaining the pros and cons throughout my process. I really appreciated this because most companies drop you like third period french once they have decided not to hire you. So, thank you ZenPayroll for the productive and constructive feedback. I am ready and willing to learn if you ever reached back out to me. I truly believe in your mission.
