I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Gusto in Nov 2023
Interview
A standard OA, recruiter call, two technical interviews. The OA was pretty easy compared to a lot of other online assessments, and I was able to finish fairly quickly with full marks.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
One interview question asked me about how to label things in alphabetical order. I remember it was tagged in leetcode under the company name, and was a leetcode hard level
Thought process was relatively well run, if a little long for a summer engineering internship. First few rounds went well, was eventually rejected after the fourth round. Team was very communicative, and I never felt a lack of clarity from the process.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Gusto in Sep 2018
Interview
Gusto definitely has one of the best and smoothest recruitment processes I've ever gone through! There were 4 steps to the interview process. I initially went though a behavioral phone screen with an engineer where I was asked questions about my interest in Gusto and my previous experiences listed on my resume. Next were 2 1-hour technical phone screens on CodePad that were both fairly simple. The final step was an on-site interview (that they let me do remotely) consisting of a 45 minute behavioral interview (mostly questions about how you would react in certain situations or what your experiences are with x ,y, z) and a 75 minute technical interview (where I got to solve a bug in their actual codebase!). Each of my interviewers was extremely helpful and forthcoming, and it was easy to see how passionate they are about the work they're doing. When I got my offer, everyone who interviewed me told me exactly what they liked about me and why they felt like I deserved the offer. It was incredibly sweet and felt like a very personalized experience :)
