I applied for the role online. A recruiter reached out to me the next day to set up a recruiter interview. The recruiter provided great information about the interview process every step of the way, which consisted of:
- Interview with the hiring manager (45 minutes)
- Values & Motivation Alignment (45 minutes)
- PE Attributes (PE = People Empowerer, which is what they call their managers) (1 hour)
- Coding Work-Session (90 minutes)
- Architecture system design (75 minutes)
- Cross-Functional Collaboration (45 minutes)
Every interviewer I met was truly exceptional - kind, smart, caring, and deeply engaged in our conversations. They seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say, and we had fun, energetic back-and-forth discussions that left me extremely excited about potentially working with this company. I got the impression that Gusto has a thoughtful culture with talented people I'd love to collaborate with.
I received a standard rejection email 1 week after the last interview, which is understandable as companies often have many qualified candidates. However, I was disappointed when I inquired about being considered for other open engineering manager roles and didn't receive a response. After investing significant time in their comprehensive interview process, an acknowledgment would have been appreciated.
Total time from first recruiter contact to rejection email was 39 days.
