I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at H&M in Jun 2015
Interview
Applied online, one week later I got a phone call - a few simple questions about previous work experience etc. After my phone interview I was invited along to a recruiting event 6 days later, which I assumed would be about 6-12 people; however it turned out to be around 30+ people as they were trialling a new recruiting process.
We were then split into groups of about 8, and we were given a list of practical challenges: show off our organisational skills (aka tidy the messy shop floor), redistribute a clothing rail full of random items and fill an empty clothing rail with something suitable. The last challenge was to pick an outfit for an imagined up customer (ours was "a girl on holiday visiting the city, who was then going out clubbing afterwards" which I found quite difficult as it was so specific.) Finally we had some standard questions, our interviewer decided do them as a group which I felt didn't give people a fair share of attention. However the process allowed me to see the store and meet a lot of the existing staff, which was helpful. The atmosphere was relaxed and didn't feel too competitive.
After succeeding in the group interview, I was invited back a week later for a 1-1 interview. This only lasted about 10 minutes and most questions were about availability, it seemed at this point they were just reconfirming my suitability. I recommend coming with some questions prepared to seem more interested (What is an average day working here like? What shift patterns do you offer? What is your training program like? etc.)
Got a offer back the next day, I accepted.
