The FA interview process with Hawaiian Airlines was very drawn out and misleading. After applying in June, I received an email late July inviting me to a group panel interview in Honolulu. They do not offer any sort of transportation to the islands if you live on the mainland or else where. The group panel interview was straightforward. First, they administer the Reach Test (being able to reach 82 inches without heels) and after passing this, the entire group is led to sit in a room where introductions (of HA employees) take place and questions are answered. Interviewees are broken up into groups of 4 and then led to a room with approximately 4 interviewers. Each interviewer asks a question (customer service, Hawaiian hospitality, etc) and every interviewee answers. At the end of the interview each interviewee reads aloud from a script. This entire process lasted about 1.5 hours. They let us know that we would be receiving an email if we were invited to the second round of interviews (which would be held the next day).I got my email around 6:30 pm (they had originally said by 5:00 pm we would get an email) inviting me to the next round of interviews the next day. We were put in groups of approximately 15 interviewees and led to a room with 8 interviewers/observers. We sat in a half circle and were asked to stand up and introduce ourselves, one at a time. After this, we were each given a customer service scenario that we were to read and then tell our response to the entire group in two minutes. When everyone had finished, we were broken up in to groups of 4 where we were instructed to work together to solve a number of different problems in order of urgency on a fictitious flight. They walked around and listened/observed how we worked as a team. At the end of ten minutes they let us know that the interview was over and that they would be sending us an email if we were invited back to the final interview (“Mid-August”). They did not indicate when we would find out. The next day around noon, I received an email saying that I had been invited back to the final interview; this email said that I would be receiving another email "shortly"regarding scheduling for my final interview. I didn't receive this email for another 2-4 days. They provide two dates with about 4 different time slots per date, which was 9 days after the initial two rounds of interviews. This interview required you to bring two copies of your resume and recommendation letters. My interview lasted 45 minutes and the two women I interviewed with were somewhat cold and unexcitable. I was very prepared and I know I did my best, but it was a little uncomfortable. At the end of the interview the two women let me know that I would get a phone call that Wednesday (5 DAYS LATER) to let me know if I had been invited to training. Initially, during the second interview, we were told that we would find out on the spot if we were offered a position...so I knew this didn't feel right. After MUCH preparation for this interview, a new suit, and two flights in two weeks to Hawaii from the East Coast (at my expense)...I was not offered the position. I'm not saying that just because of these things I deserved the job! HOWEVER - I know that I did GREAT and looked great in all three of the interviews. I also know of a few others that interviewed and seemed like great fits for the position that were not offered a spot either. I received a phone call around 10 pm EST, and was left a very impersonal voice message by one of the "lovely" women I had my final interview with. There was no reason given for not being offered the position; I was invited to call back with any questions, so of course I did, but only got a voicemail (I left a message) and I'm fairly certain I will not be called back.I'm honestly not sure what they were/are looking for.If I had to make an educated guess, I think that they are looking for people with extensive customer service experience ONLY (key word - extensive, and in the airline industry).I truly feel as if I were lied to; in the first and second interviews, there was a casual question and answer session with some of the in-flight employees. The answers that they provided re: the interview process did not align with how it actually went. They gave us the number break down of applications received and final people being accepted for the position which didn't seem right either: 3500 applicants, 400 for the first group panel interview,100 for the second interview, undisclosed number for final interviews, 40 spots for training.I have a difficult time wrapping my brain around myself and 2 other very sharp individuals not getting offered at least one of those spots. I'm still kind of shocked (and I'll have you know that I'm a very humble person). My advice to you: do not waste your time applying and flying out to Honolulu AND getting your hopes up for this position unless you have EXTENSIVE (5+ years) or customer service/hospitality/airline experience.
