I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Headway (NY) (New York, NY) in Feb 2023
Interview
Awful. I was reached out to by a recruiter on Linkedin and agreed to an introduction interview. She was 15 minutes late and provided me with the wrong salary information for the state that I live in which was a red flag but the company mission sounded strong so I wanted to learn more. I ended up having 5 total interviews with a fairly extensive take home assignment in between, and each interview was progressively more unappealing than the last. There was an entire interview dedicated to behavioral questions which was probably my least favorite out of all of these bizarre interviews, as the hiring manager asked me some strange questions that would require me to be way too personal if answered honestly. My overall impression was that their staff was grilling me/ trying to intimidate me rather than get to know me and see if we would be a good fit. The hiring process was messy and their staff was unprofessional. They asked me if I would be able to start in SIX days and while I was pretty desperate for a job at the time I'm glad that I turned down the offer because this company seems like a walking caution sign.

Question 1
What is a relationship you've had in the past that made you realize you needed to change, and what are the steps you took to make these changes?
I was initially very excited about this opportunity. The compensation was below industry standard, but given the mission, I was willing to be flexible.
The final interview started off well, with one interviewer who was warm and easy to talk to. However, a second interviewer sitting in was noticeably rude and dismissive for much of the conversation. Toward the end, when I tried to get clarity on a few points, the tone became sarcastic and dismissive rather than collaborative. It felt less like a conversation and more like being tested or caught out, which was enough that I withdrew from the process shortly after.
It also seems like this company overextends its employees, expecting people to take on far more than is reasonable, especially given the below market pay.
The unfortunate truth is that candidates are evaluating a company just as much as the company is evaluating them. This experience made clear that isn’t fully understood internally, and how someone is treated in an interview says a lot about how they’d be treated as an employee.
I applied online. I interviewed at Headway (NY) (San Francisco, CA) in Mar 2026
Interview
I was honestly so impressed by this process! Everyone was detail oriented and kind. I also felt like the recruiting team prepared me well. I joined Headway a month ago and it's been such a breath of fresh air so far. I'd recommend!
