Who does this no-name company think they are? They act like they’re on par with Google, Salesforce, or Amazon. I’ve worked and interviewed for some of the top tech companies, and this was by far the worst experience of my career.
First, their recruiters bombarded my LinkedIn inbox four times before I responded. Initially, I declined, but after persistent follow-ups, I eventually agreed as I was awaiting another offer (which, thankfully, I received – dodged a bullet with this place).
I was then shuffled between three different recruiters who sent me various emails about next steps. I had to piece together the information myself to understand the actual process, which was extremely ambiguous. After repeatedly asking multiple recruiters for clarification, I finally received an answer.
They had me immediately create a presentation, which involved gathering data and devising a sales plan. While juggling my current job and traveling for work, I spent hours putting together a thorough presentation – interpreting the data, developing individualized coaching plans, identifying focus areas for underperforming reps, and strategies for maintaining a high-performing team. After completing it, I was asked to meet with a recruiter to “review it,” who reluctantly hopped on a call for 5 minutes without providing any substantial feedback. Without reviewing my slides, he said, “it looks good enough,” and offered some obvious and generic advice, “don’t just read off of your slides,” and “be professional.”
Fast forward to a week later, they had me perform a “mock sales call” for a well-known marketplace company (ahem, Airbnb). During the role-play, I set a clear agenda, set expectations that I would be asking for their business at the end of the call, conducted deep discovery identifying pain, authority, need, budget, timeline, etc. I provided a quick “demo,” identifying features and benefits of the product, related it to her pain points, asked for her business, and closed the deal. I thought I did a pretty solid job. Was it perfect? No, but it was an on-the-spot pitch/demo in an interview on a product I knew little about. It was definitely good enough to allow me to present my presentation 30 minutes later.
In the 30 minutes between my “mock sales call” and my presentation, I received an email from one of the recruiters with an “interview cancellation notice” stating that I was rejected and there was no need for me to perform my presentation – the one I had spent hours on! They stated they would provide no feedback – something I always do with my candidates applying for roles and almost always receive from jobs I’ve applied to.
This is my first Glassdoor review, and I felt compelled to warn others about my experience. This company would have done nothing for my resume; in fact, it would have been a stain on it. Just look at the Glassdoor reviews. From the lackluster product (it’s not SaaS, not a technical product), low pay, to the utter disregard for my time, the unhelpful recruiters, and the clunky and disorganized interview process, do yourself a favor and don’t waste your time. It obviously says something about the culture at Headway.
