      Product Manager Interview

      Apr 12, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Nashville, TN
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at HealthStream (Nashville, TN) in Apr 2023

      Interview

Three step process: HR screen, hiring manager interview, presentation/case. The hiring manager stated I shouldn't't hold myself to too high of standards or set ambitious goals in this role and alluded to significant bureaucracy and high turnover. As someone who is seeking a high impact role, that was pretty disappointing to hear. When I asked him why he chooses to work at Healthstream he said that he "enjoys growing revenue" which didn't really resonate with me as a mission-oriented person who places customers at the center of product management.  Overall his vision of product management seems pretty old-school as he didn't seem familiar with Agile project management and asked questions that gave me the impression he's looking for someone who can generate financial reports rather than a true product manager..."Tell me something interesting about cost accounting," was definitely a strange interview prompt for a product management position.
