I was contacted by a recruiter and had an initial interview with her. Following the phone interview I was asked to complete a design test. I was asked to create a pattern, three mood boards, and to design a set of stickers for a planner. About a week later I had a web interview since I was out of state. That interview lasted about an hour and a half and was with the recruiter, two department leaders (one from Jewelry and one from Textiles), and a manager. Two weeks later I was flown out to Oklahoma City to the Corporate office. I was surprised that they didn't offer to pay for the hotel or for other travel expenses I incurred, which is typical of larger companies. At the Corporate office, I had an additional design test which was composed of three parts (another pattern using "batch artwork", another mood board for a jewelry line, and revisions to a hypothetical design proof) and was timed, a tour, and the interview with a panel. I was there from 8:30 until 2 o'clock and I wasn't offered food or a break to take a lunch, which I also found unusual. I received a call from the recruiter a few days later offering me the job, but instead of an official offer letter, which I had requested, the recruiter offered to type up a brief synopsis in an email. I was offered an amount that was below my minimum salary request that I had established would be needed for moving across the country and I was given a start date two weeks from when the offer was made. This meant that I would have less than two weeks to pack up my house, move across the country, and find a new place to live. Initially, the recruiter requested that I give her an answer in two days, I told her this was not possible and asked to have till the end of the week. I ended up having to attend a funeral that week for a close family member and asked the recruiter for more time to decide. She emailed me back with what came across as an ultimatum and gave me a deadline of 10 am on Memorial day, which I thought was in poor taste. I ultimately declined the offer for the reasons that I listed.
