      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Houzz (Irvine, CA) in Jan 2015

      Interview

Applied online right before Christmas. Received an email the second week of January asking to schedule a phone interview. I spoke with a junior recruiter who was very friendly and easy to talk to. She described the responsibilities of the role and then asked a few questions. They were pretty straight forward. Asked a lot about activities in high school and college. Received an email the next day inviting me to a one on one interview at the office. I was also asked to fill out a questionnaire before coming in. I interviewed with a senior recruiter. She told me we were going to go over the questionnaire I had filled out and asked a few additional questions as well. She was very serious and hardly smiled the entire time. I found this to be a little intimidating and was disappointed that she didn't seem to be as excited about Houzz as I was, especially after having such a friendly person for my first interview. At the end, I was allowed to ask her a few of my own questions. I asked about the opportunities for growth (a pretty standard question in my opinion) and she seemed very put off by it which shocked me. A few days later I received an email saying I didn't make it to the next round and that while they were impressed by my skills and background, I wasn't a direct fit for the position. Although my second interview wasn't the best experience, I would still love to work for Houzz and think it's a great company with a bright future ahead of them.
