I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Boston, MA) in Feb 2022
Interview
I applied to Hubspot through the careers portal on their website & within a couple days received an email asking for my availability to do a phone screening with the recruiter.
During the initial call, I was asked about my background and what I was looking for in my next role, as well as why I liked HubSpot specifically. The recruiter was super well versed on the design teams & the design culture at the company, which was really awesome. I asked about the typical interview process and the process was as follows: Recruiter phone screen > 1 hour hiring manager interview > Portfolio presentation/1:1 interviews with respective team. This was a really good green flag to me, because as most designers know, these processes can be super out of control, and I could tell the HubSpot process adapted to fit the need of candidates :)
Within a day or 2, I was told the hiring manager wanted to move forward and I provided my availability & got scheduled. In the scheduling email, I was sent a PDF of how to prepare for my interview that was beyond helpful & informative.
The 1:1 interview was pretty standard, we talked about the position itself, my background, their background, and I was asked a couple questions about my current process. We also walked through one of the case studies on my portfolio & talked through the details. At the end, the manager said that I would hear back soon.
A couple days after that interview, I received an email from the recruiter that said they weren't going to move forward with me and obviously that sucked- but it was nice to hear back in under a week! Overall it was a good process & everyone was communicative.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot in Sep 2025
Interview
After handing in my CV I had a recruiter reaching out for an initial interview. It clearly stated that there is no preparation needed for this round.
Recruiter call was on the phone and quite impersonal with a standard script. The recruiter provided all the basic information you would expect from a call like that so I got a clear picture of the set up, team and company. I was then asked to walk them through a project of mine which came as a surprise, considering the ‘no preparation needed’ statement on the invite.
Overall friendly call but please be more upfront what you’re expecting of candidates during this interview.

Interview
Overall interview process would’ve been four phases: recruiter screen, hiring manager interview, portfolio review, and a panel virtual onsite behavioral interview.
I didn’t make it past the hiring manager interview but everybody was nice and quick to set up interviews and give feedback.

Interview
The recruiter reached out and we set an initial interview very quickly. It went well. Then, I met the hiring manager. He was very thorough and professional in the interview. The process felt pretty standard and there was especially good communication with the recruiter
