Despite some bumps, my experience was great! I applied in August. My first recruiter, Micaela, reached out & set up a phone screen, but she never called. I chalked it up to they filled the position and left it at that.
A few weeks later another recruiter, Andrea, emailed me. We set up a phone screen. The first one was missed by 10 minutes (my own work conflict), but she let me set up another and we got to chat. The first half she was seemed very distracted, not actively listening, and was making lots of noise in what sounded like the kitchen packing pots/pans. I didn't expect to move on, but she told me about the next steps being a tech challenge and the demo interview with a team lead.
My demo & role play with Erin (insanely nice and easy to interview with) went better than I thought it had. To prepare, I had been poking around on the platform prior to my phone screen (thanks to tips from here!). By the time I did my landing page & other tasks, I was having fun exploring and added some additional things. Erin asked certain questions to discern a lot of my logic and reasoning. It's okay to talk through your thoughts in this phase, they are trying to understand how you think. At the end Erin was very transparent on feedback & asking me what/if I would've done differently, which I loved! My best tips: Play with the platform!! Get comfortable with what things are & where they are. You don't need to have the answer to the customer inquiry during the roleplay, but know how to guide the situation, recreate the issue, ask the customer questions to get more info etc, and know when to transition to alternative options. Don't break character. Be humble, be kind, be honest & transparent.
Andrea notified me that my demo feedback was good, but that I'd be getting handed off to a new recruiter. I wasn't sure if this was common, but within a few days Jeff reached out. We set up a phone screen and he was thorough on my demo feedback and let me know I'd be moving to final stage of 3 x 30min hiring manager interviews. He was a rockstar in prepping me with all the questions I'd be asked, the topics each manager would be navigating, and sharing their names to check out their LinkedIn profiles. I felt this was very helpful for me when I was crafting my questions and tailoring them to each interviewer personally. Thanks Jeff Jecrois!!
The final interviews with Gustavo (resiliency & effective communication), Dulce (customer-first mentality & problem-solving), and Molly (ownership & coach-ability) were probably some of the best I've ever experienced. Everyone was calm, easy-going, and detailed with questions as well as answers to all of my questions. My best tips for this: BE YOURSELF - if you're nervous, fine, start with that, let them know, then shake it all out on camera. BE INTERESTED - your questions will show the why you want the position, why HubSpot etc. BE SELF-AWARE - in telling your past experience scenario stories, express how those moments changed you, how you felt about them then versus now. I didn't focus on STAR, I just knew my history and knew how to tell that story. Don't get too hung up on and anxious about the format, just relax & naturally tell your stories (they don't always have to be from work - think school, personal, family :) I recorded myself asking each question. Then I played the video and paused to give myself exposure to answering each one out loud and knowing which stories I'd tell for each one. I feel this greatly helped me get comfortable with the questions and my answers. I wrote a page for each of my interviewers with the questions they'd be asking and made notes for quick easy reference if I got nervous and lost my thoughts. I also researched my interviewers, watched YouTube vids, read everything on here!
If you want to work in this role, if you want to work for this company, it'll show, they'll be able to tell in how you prepared, your enthusiasm, and the interest you convey. It doesn't have to be over the top, but if you want this role, have effective communication, an interest in tech, and a kind, empathetic, and humble heart, you'll get the position... so BEST OF LUCK!!
