      Temporary Specimen Processor I Interview

      Apr 4, 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Toronto, ON
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at IDEXX Laboratories (Toronto, ON) in Mar 2017

      Interview

This was by far the absolute worst interview experience I have ever had in my life. I apologize in advance for the length of this comment, however I feel this needs to be read so no one else puts themselves through the experience I did. Upon returning the interviewer's call early in the day after receiving her message about the position, I was very unprofessionally greeted and told I would be receiving a call later the same day at 6pm. I spent the day preparing and taking notes for the interview by reviewing the job description provided online as well as the company website. I did not receive a call back until 9pm. During the call, I was not apologized to for receiving a call 3 hours later than promised, and was treated incredibly unprofessionally and disrespectfully. Over the course of the interview, maybe only three "official" interview questions were asked: "What do you know about IDEXX", "How did you hear about this job?", and "Why do you want this job, because, I mean, you only have, like -- you have no lab experience and like, only experience as a sales associate, so, um- yeah.". Throughout the interview, the interviewer: -> Audibly sighed into the phone numerous times as I answered and asked questions, -> Conducted herself in a manner to make me feel uncomfortable (not listening to my responses, acting annoyed when I asked for more detail in regards to responsibilities, training, and hours), -> Did not give me answers that were helpful ("A 'Specimen Processor' processes specimens"), -> Made me feel inadequate and useless to the company because I had limited laboratory experience (though she was the one who decided to interview me hopefully because of the skills and qualifications I possess and mentioned in my application -- including but not limited to: a GPA of 3.95 in my final year and a GPA of 4.0 in my final semester at UofT as a full-time human biology major while simultaneously maintaining a head cashier position over the last two years.), -> Told me "I'm the interviewer and these are the only hours we are going to give you" though they conflicted (on only one evening) with the hours I listed while filling out the mandatory online questionnaire (Which, she did not believe was the case, sighed loudly, asked me to wait for a few minutes, and proceeded to turn on and log into her computer [heard the "start" noise followed by typing] to confirm what I had just verbally stated -- leading me to believe she did not even have my application with her as she spoke to me.) -> Repeatedly asked me "look, do you want this job or not?" and stated "I don't want to waste my time, I have a lot of people to call" when I asked for more detail about the position and pointed out discrepancies between the answers she was giving me and the description on the IDEXX website in regards to the position. The real shocker was that she was still trying to give me this job even though the interview went so horribly. I have no way of knowing this, but it seems as though this company, at least at the Markham location, is desperate for people to work for them, and doesn't even care about who they hire - or how they treat their employees or future employees. Though it was a guaranteed position for a few months with hours that were pretty good, I felt, because of the way the interview was led, the position was not worth taking. I felt like I'd have been treated like a workhorse at the job and honestly, she led me to believe this position would not give me anything worth putting on my resume in regards to lab work since I was told "No. You won't be touching any of the equipment. You will be given results and you will enter them into the computer." which was completely different than the description online that I had applied for. Moreover, the interviewer herself seemed like she was miserable and hated her job. It seemed like I would have been walking into a horrific situation if I had accepted the position and I do not believe a few months of employment was worth my mental health.
