I was flown to Seattle to participate in a day of interviews. The first interviewer that was scheduled turned out to be absent so another engineer was tapped to conduct first interview. Questions were regarding my project experience and a theory question about Fourier Transformations. I got the feeling that this was not a typical question but I answered it correctly, nonetheless. The second interviewer was with a member of my group. She was very nice and personable but had a very thick accent and kept trying to ask a question about computers and memory which I could not fully understand. After multiple attempts at clarification, I started describing everything I knew about computer memory and how it worked until she pointed to a specific part of my explanation and asked what the unit of storage I had indicated was. Bytes. The third interviewer was with a very senior engineer with a long career in the industry. He made a half-hearted attempt at asking a question before diving into a long story about his experiences at different companies and his thoughts on modern electrical engineering. He was nice enough and a relaxing break. The fourth interview was a business lunch with the VP of engineering. We talked about my experience and questions I had about the company. The fifth interview was with my manager. I was suffering an intense food coma at this point so my memory of this part of the day is a bit hazy but I do remember it was a basic programming question which I managed to answer correctly. The sixth and final interview was with the director of software engineering. There was a basic question about flipping an image horizontally by flipping the appropriate bits in an array that represented each pixel. After answering this, the interview ended a bit early and I was taken out to lunch where I was all but offered the position. If I could recommend one thing, it would be not to wear a suit. Wear business casual or something else but do not wear a suit. Only the executives wear suits and everyone who interviewed me was wearing jeans. The conference rooms are tiny and it's really easy to get really sweaty.
