Recruiter contacted over phone and scheduled an interview. I had 2 rounds of interview and both of them went pretty well and I was given very positive feedback by the interviewer. So I waited for the recruiter for official verdict, without assuming any foothold.
Well over a week passed by and yet I didn’t get anything so I tried couple of time reaching out the recruiter before he picked up my call and engaged in conversation. The way he was saying how the team liked me very much and in shaking voice he was trying to find words for what to say next. Because based on the talk I was pretty sure that they’d hired somebody after false promise with me and that’s why recruiter was struggling to speak with me.
By that time he managed to say that they’re thinking to give more senior role for which he will send the job description.., again 2 weeks passed by and nothing. Ghosted completely.
Now I was 100% sure that although they liked my candidacy but they can’t hire me because they already have someone hired for the position and certainly for less $$, otherwise there shouldn’t be any other reason to ghost like this.
From my end I tried reaching out on multiple point of contact just to get transparency from them, but I never got it. And now even if they’ll choose to hire me? I’m gonna reject the offer because I cannot work for a company who treats candidates/employees like an options while wanting them to treat the company like their own and work hard for the corporate quarterly goals.
My two cents are:
- be transparent with candidates regarding decision, no matter how bad it is from either end
- if you gonna flip in the last because of $$ then clarify it beforehand
- at least be in conversation loop than setting up some fake OOO emails
