The interview process started with an interview with a hiring manager, which was pretty straightforward. She asked about my experience using SQL and for an example of when I worked on a cross-functional team.
The next step was a conversation with a manager on the team. It was fairly friendly and cordial with mostly behavioral-type questions.
The next step was a three-day case study and SQL test. The SQL query prompt was fairly straightforward if you're somewhat familiar with SQL and the case study was a data dump of their customer data and they asked me to prepare a presentation with my strategic recommendations.
I put a lot of effort into this presentation and I didn't hear back for about a week. After I followed up, however, I was moved on to a panel interview with team members. I was told I would be reached out to within 24 hours to schedule another panel interview with higher level executives.
However, I didn't hear back for over a month. During that month, I accepted another offer and had already been working for two weeks. I had been in an interview process for over a month and common courtesy and decency would dictate either a prompt response or a phone call with feedback. I legitimately think they were just interviewing me to harvest me for ideas I had about the platform. Overall, the interview experience left a really bad taste in my mouth about Instacart.
