I applied online. I interviewed at Institute For Humane Studies (Washington, DC) in Aug 2016
Interview
After applying on line, I was contacted via email to set up a phone interview. I was offered two days/times for a phone screen interview. The HR rep mainly went over my previous positions one by one asking what I did. I felt it was a waste of time as everything I shared is included on my resume. There were not any real interview/get to know you type questions...all just "tell me what you did at this job"
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
"What do you feel the role of government should be?"
I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Institute For Humane Studies (Arlington, VA) in Aug 2016
Interview
Applied online and was contacted by HR to set up a phone interview. About 30 minutes prior to the scheduled call, the HR recruited cancelled. It took several follow up emails and effort on my side to reschedule the call. Rescheduled call was with a different recruiter who barely asked any questions. One thing was obvious though - if you are not extremely libertarian, this job probably isn't a good match. I am not, but chose to push on.
The next step was a call with the Director of Events. She asked more thoughtful questions related to the actual position, but once again there were a lot of questions that pushed the libertarian agenda. After about a week, I was asked to interview in-person.
The in-person interview was 3 rounds with 2 interviewers each. All panels were people that would either be on the same professional level or lower. There was no leadership involved. The director who I had my phone interview with did not meet with me in person which was extremely odd in my opinion. All of the in-person interviews continued to push the libertarian agenda and it was obvious that many of the people hired had previously held internships or volunteer positions for the organization. Another bad sign.
Several days after my interview after sending very thoughtful thank you's, I received an email from the recruiter with directions for the "next steps." It was an email with links to YouTube videos pushing the libertarian agenda. I watched the videos, took good notes, and emailed back asking what the next steps would entail. Basically I wanted to know what was the point of watching the videos - a test? another interview? etc. My email was never answered. A follow up email was never answered.
Three months later I get an automated response that the position has been filled. This email is not from my recruiter, but a noreply server. The following day, I see the position freshly listed online again.
All in all, I feel that I dodge a huge libertarian bullet.
