For an agency that talks about promoting an inclusive environment and that they are the “best” to work with, their hiring process is far from the best I've experienced. I’m a diverse hire, and it felt—to me—like they were going through the motions. Here’s why. They reached out to schedule an initial interview and I found their scheduling system unnecessarily cumbersome. You can’t just schedule an appointment – you have to suggest available times from a list and then they have to pick and confirm a time. The first time I suggested times, the recruiter told me they weren’t available, despite those times showing as available, and I’d need to try again and find other times. We eventually landed on a time that worked for them. The recruiter was polite, but it felt like they were reading from a script the entire time and they needed to read fast to make sure everything was covered. I didn’t sense any enthusiasm toward me as a candidate—I felt like a number, honestly. It was confusing, because at one point they said they’d need to send over my profile to see if the hiring team wanted to move forward with me. Then, at another point, they said they’d already sent over my profile and the hiring team had expressed interest. I appreciated the very clear timeline around what the next steps would be and when they’d be getting back to me next. Unfortunately, they didn’t follow through on the expectations they set. They sent over a job description recap, info about the team, and what next steps were, which was a nice touch. However, they asked me to sign an NDA before confirming that I’d be invited to another interview. I had to ask – has the team confirmed they’ll be setting up an interview with me? After all, I don’t sign binding legal agreements “just in case". They said it was fine to wait until confirmation and that they should have an update tomorrow. Tomorrow came and went – no update. I followed up two days later and was told I should hear something by EOD. Nothing. I followed up again several days later and received a canned response that they wouldn’t be pursuing my candidacy. Okay… That’s fine, but why? I politely asked for feedback (again, I’d been told the hiring team had already expressed interest in my profile). Unsurprisingly I received no response. I also didn’t receive a response to my inquiry about another similar role. I often get to the final stages of interviews - sometimes I've gotten multiple offers. So I doubt that it was my interview skills. Why schedule interviews with candidates you don’t seem at all interested in? It’s a waste of valuable time for both sides. I didn’t find my experience reflective of their messaging at all. Onward and upward, as they say.
