      Devops Engineer Interview

      Jan 26, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Reston, VA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Intellibus (Reston, VA) in Jan 2022

      Interview

Ok, so the recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn - 'I came across your LinkedIn profile and am impressed with your background.' We get chatting and he asks for my CV, I send it over, and arrange a video call. I had about 20 mins to do any kind of research. We get in and his video isn't on. I question this and get the response "I'm not dressed for a video call." 1) You called me. 2) You are trying to woo me over to your company. Red flags. He asks "So why are you looking to move to a new company?" 1) Again: *You approached me.* - I'm open to opportunities, but you are trying to romance me over to yours. Another red flag. He starts asking technical questions, and I stop him - I explained that I was expecting an informal conversation about *who the company is*. On their LinkedIn they state: 'Top 3 Best Tech in DC, 2016 Tech Ovation Semifinalist, 2017 Moxie Awards Semifinalist, 2018' But I can't find any info about these things online. I asked where I could find the articles and he didn't have them to hand. I asked him about the companies they work with and was told that they can't talk about who they work with. What, are you worried I'm going to undermine you? Steal the client myself? Again: You are trying to get me on the team - I need to know that I'm not going to be working with a company that will have a problem with me, or who is acting in opposition to my best interest. I am a D&I specialist, so I asked about what D&I practices they have - He didn't understand. So I expanded - Diversity and Inclusion - Still nothing, I had to literally explain what Equality, Diversity and Inclusion is to this guy. I stopped asking questions at that point. I let him get back to his script. He asked me 'How long have you been in Devops?" Again, I will remind people reading this that the initial message to me was 'I came across your LinkedIn profile and am impressed with your background.' - He should know this already. He asks about specific technologies that I have already confirmed I have worked with. We hung up after that and I said I would get back to him with availability for the next stage of the interview process, but the reality is that I'm out. A note for the recruitment team: You are approaching the talent: be even a little bit professional. You are the face of the company that they are going to associate with your brand and remember that when hiring: You are wooing *them*, not the other way around.
