I had four interviews, all over 1 hour long, all over the phone. Everyone on the phone was very very engaging and seemed very interested in speaking with me and seemed like they were really involved. After a few weeks of these phone calls, I was told they just had to interview one more "internal candidate". At that point, I knew I was always the pawn. I knew, and I could hear from the HR Director, that I was clearly the better candidate - more qualified, more experience- and yet they were always going to be promoting within. I think you need to get in on the ground floor with these folks - difficult to enter from mid or upper level.
