I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at JCPenney (Plano, TX) in Apr 2013
Interview
I was contacted by a recruiter via Linkedin. She set up a phone interview that took 30 minutes in which she asked me screening questions about planning & allocation and retail math. After that, she set up an interview at the headquarters. I was flown out on a Monday night, picked up by a limo service, then taken to a nice hotel. In the morning I took the shuttle from the hotel to the HQ and met the recruiter.
I was actually interviewed by 4 different people - one HR director and 3 hiring managers. The HR director asked me various behavioral questions. The 3 hiring managers also asked me behavioral questions, as well as technical questions and employment history.

Interview
It took a really long time for them to get back to me after applying, months, I believe. However, from there on, they were good at communicating with me. They flew me to Dallas and booked me a hotel for the interview. Had a panel interview and gave a case study presentation to a group of employees.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at JCPenney in Sep 2019
Interview
The interview process was very smooth! The panel interview was very conversational rather than strict question/answer. Everybody seemed very knowledgeable as to what is expected from this candidate and didn't drift directions asking other things that weren't really connected to the role.
