I was called in a month after I attended a job fair in the mall. The first interview was with the talent resources leader and his assistant I believe. The interview went great! Standard questions. He said he thought I'd be a great candidate for seasonal work and quite possibly future as well. He then said he'd be setting up a talent tryout (basically a relaxed group interview) for the next week. I told them that I actually had a seasonal job with best buy that was starting on Saturday but I really wanted to work for them. They actually moved the talent tryout to the next day! I went through that process just fine! I took the lead in the group deciding upon the "best new business idea" for Penny's. Then we did a few small tasks arranging and sorting clothes to make them look clean and attractive. After that he said they'd call people the next day and set up an interview either for Friday or the following Monday. And I reminded him of best buy and asked if there was anyway that it could for sure be on Friday? And he said... "You know what? Lets just try and get you in right now." And I heard him call the store manager and say that he had a candidate that needed interviewed ASAP. So I was escorted away from my other "groupies" so that they didn't see me going to her office. I interviewed with her, she asked me a couple more questions and offered me the position! Although she did not discuss wage... so I asked her when I would know what I was getting paid. She said it started at 8.50. Which was alright but Best Buy was offering me 9.50. So I politely asked if there was any wiggle room with the dollar amount and told them what Best Buy was offering. She just asked if I'd be able to keep my open schedule and I said yes, and they bumped me up a buck! It was great! I could tell they were very impressed with me!
My tips for you are:
Dress NICE!!! It's a clothing store!!! I dressed up in a suit and tie, with cuff links and tie clips and the whole works! Shoot for the moon, they are never gonna criticize you for looking clean and well kept!
Be outgoing, and don't freeze up in the group interview! Take charge be friendly, happy upbeat! Don't sit awkwardly with your "groupies" get to know their names, ask them questions about themselves! They are looking for customer service people, so they look to see if you can make conversation easily with anyone.
All in all a fairly straightforward process! Management seems to already be awesome!! I know I'm going to love my job already!!! Very nice people there from what I can see 8~)
