I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at JCPenney (Harlingen, TX) in Nov 2010
Interview
I walked towards JC Penny, as I entered; the person who was going to interview me was already waiting by the door. These people are in plain clothes in order not to be identified. I was not as nervous since this was not exactly my dream job or anything. I just thought it would be something different and interesting and wanted to learn more. It took them one day to contact me for this interview. I was taken to a back room where I was asked to sit until he came back with a sheet of paper with what I would assume were questions.
I was asked why would I want to work for JC Penny? The guy was very nice where I was comfortable with the questions. I was asked about scenario questions, like if I saw a shop lifter taking $10 merchandise would I stop him? What if he had a few friends with him, would I chase after him? I was told I had to keep in mind of the safety of the employees and myself. After about 20 minutes into the interview I was asked that JC Penny is also considering other positions that would fit me as well since I have dealt with people in the past. That if I was interested in those other positions like associates to start with. As I was told that I had a feeling he was not interested in me for the loss prevention position. Also, I have never had prior experience in this type of job, and as he explained to me more about it, I was not interested in it either. It was too confrontational for me, and I like to socialize with others and not have drama surround me. So just as we were wrapping things up after about 32 minutes, he asked “Why should I hire you over someone else?” Then we thanked each other and I left the store to look around the mall.
