I applied online. I interviewed at Jane Street in Nov 2016
Interview
60 min phone interview. Applied via online form. Few minutes introducing. 50 minutes problem solving. Few minutes "do you have any question to me" part. Interviewer was friendly and punctual.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Problem 1: you are given matrix filled with letters "U" "D" "L" "R" "X". On "U" you can move only up etc... X is destination. Find if it is possible to reach X. (Watch out for loops)
Problem 2: How many edits (e.x. change "U" -> "L") you need to make in order to reach X.
The process started with an initial virtual round, followed by an onsite interview. It included a mix of system design and coding problems focused on real-world system applications. Unfortunately, I didn’t perform well in the onsite, which was the most critical stage.
It was a very quick and painless process. Recruiter very responsive, kind interviewers. High implementation and difficult problems, so failed onsite after 3 interviews and a Question and Answer Session.
Did not pass the initial coding round. I tried to explain my thought in details to the interviewer but failed to translate my thought into code. So far interviewer is very nice.
