I applied online. I interviewed at Jane Street (New York, NY) in Sep 2024
Interview
Originally applied to trading role but got considered for SP instead
1) Took online assessment, couple questions on order book basics, probability, and logic of systems (think data tables, processing large amounts of info)
2) 1 hour Zoom Interview with current SP (game theory like question and then a system design question), they'll ask lots of questions throughout to understand your logic
3) Flown in for on-site interview, one larger system design interview based on trading systems and another interview about market making based on a reading they provided in advance, was cut after these 2 interviews
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Game theory question involving coming up a strategy for winning
Very consulting-like without looking for a too structured framework. Asked about restaurant reservations and how to optimize the current system, a lot more producty than strategy. Overall, prep with thinking practically and outside the box rather than with jargon
OA first, random ACT-like questions. First round was on building out a car rental system. Second round was on building a trading system. Did not make it further than this.
