      Interview

As part of the application, this company wants you to write original copy specific to them. I'm sorry that I did it. I suspect this company is using job search websites to secure free copy.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Jellyvision Lab in Jun 2019

      Interview

I applied online and was contacted two days later to schedule a phone screen. It was a very standard HR phone screen interview. They told me I would have 48 hours to complete a writing assignment, and I could choose the 48 hours at my leisure. The assignment was to take feedback on the writing sample I had provided in my application, and turn it into a 2-page video script. I completed the assignment and submitted within the 48 hour time frame. I heard nothing for three weeks after submitting, then I got a rejection email from the recruiter who conducted my phone screen. I asked for feedback on the assignment, since they emphasized how important feedback is to their process, and got an email that they would "look into it" but then nothing. Overall, a frustrating experience that was incredibly positive and moved quickly, then stalled completely and became very cold. One of the weirder job interview processes I've gone through.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Jellyvision Lab (Chicago, IL) in Oct 2012

      Interview

I got an e-mail about 6 weeks after I applied asking me to come in for a Flowchart Test. I went in, took the test, and was notified via e-mail 4 days later that I was selected to move on to the next round of the interview/hiring process. I had to write a single-path script on a topic of their choosing and turn it in by a date of my choosing. I gave myself about 2 weeks to complete the task, and heard back about 2 weeks after handing it in that I didn't make it to the next round of the interview. A few writers had told me during conversations on-site and over the phone that I'd be receiving feedback aimed at showing me how to improve my piece, but I never got anything other than "We think you're a really great writer and liked X, Y, and Z of your script, but too bad. Game over." I sent a polite e-mail asking for more specific feedback but never heard back--not even an e-mail politely declining my request. Not exactly the most tactful way of turning down a candidate after a 2+ month hiring process. Oh, one more thing--they could have timed their rejection e-mail way better. Dropping the bomb the night before Thanksgiving is not the best time to reject someone who's spent 2+ months waiting and jumping through the hiring hoops. Anyone who's waited that long can surely wait a few more days.

      Question 1

They never asked any questions about me. This was kind of nice because it took the pressure off a bit, but I kind of wish they showed more interest.
