      Software Engineering Manager Interview

      Nov 1, 2020

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Jellyvision Lab in Oct 2020

      Interview

I talked with a recruiter first, and than a VP of Engineering. I then did a series of panel interviews. One panel interview was an architecture interview, another revolved around me presenting how I would handle certain management scenarios. There were two other panel interviews that were more wide-ranging. Finally, I did a last interview with the SVP of Engineering, which was much more a casual chat than an interview. Overall Jellyvision had the best interview experience I've ever had. People were friendly and welcoming. The questions were almost universally strong questions that directly related to the prospective job duties. I don't know for sure, but it seemed like all the interviewers had received actual training on how to interview, which is surprisingly rare. While there were a lot of behavioral interview questions, I really liked and appreciated that their technical challenge was not based on past work of mine, and was instead a fresh challenge that I believe is the same for every candidate. I think that's a much more equitable approach to interviewing, and a much easier way for the interviewers to evaluate a candidate. After Jellyvision extended an offer, the courtesy continued. The CEO took time out of her day twice to answer questions of mine, which was awesome. I really liked how she was honest and straightforward, giving me background about her decisions, as well as anticipating the reasoning behind my questions and addressing that as well. Overall, I had a great experience talking with Jellyvision, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend that people talk with them.
