      Technical Sales Engineer Interview

      Apr 19, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Keyence (Chicago, IL) in Apr 2016

      Interview

I have been working with a really good recruiter who at least gives the impression he is genuinely interested in making sure I perform at my best. I'm sure he gets a bonus for each successful new hiring, as he should. He has been a wonderful asset. The first screening was a basic science/physics aptitude test that took about 20 minutes to complete. It's online and in multiple choice format, something like 55 questions in 25 minutes. Pass/fail, no score given at the end. If you're competitive like I am, knowing that you "won" but aren't told by how much will be irritating. Second stage was a brief phone interview with an HR rep from Keyence. They sound bored out of their minds for a reason. I completed the interview in less the ten minutes, and was immediately notified that I was being moved forward in the process. The next step would be a HireView digital interview. The digital interview is easily one of the most unnerving and awkward things I've ever done. In standard interviews, you meet with a live human being with whom you can interact, use icebreakers to build up some comfort and rapport, get feedback, etc. Not this. You get to be an actor in front of your computer with no feedback and an ever-present countdown clock ticking away. I highly recommend doing the practice questions prior to doing the actual interview questions.

      Question 1

The Bennett aptitude test was very easy. It's basically high school level science and common sense. Will update after first phone interview is completed.

      Interview

It was difficult but if you study and know the product, you should do well. I ended up getting the job but it also depends on the location that you want to be in for the position.

      Interview

There is a Half hour behavioral and a half hour sales roleplay. Roleplay requires studying of their product to then sell to person interviewing. Then there’s a behavioral portion reviewing your resume and prior employment experiences
