Interview
The process begins with a video seminar covering the application process for the role. Here you can ask questions and find a little bit about the company. This is a great idea by Keyence.
The next step is to participate in a pre-recorded video interview (very common for entry level roles during the pandemic). These questions vary and give you the opportunity to talk about yourself.
The third step in the process is a mechanical comprehension test, similar to a Bennett test. The test consists of 15 questions with a time limit of 10 minutes. If you have studied A-level physics and maths (mechanics module) you should be fine, a lot of it requires more common sense than knowledge. The test is a pass or fail.
The 4th step is a video interview with 2 members of the company. The questions are based on your CV and are all situational type questions. For example, tell me a time when../what would be considered a weakness..
The final step of the process is another interview with 3 members of the company (senior managers etc). Before the interview you are asked to prepare a presentation based on one of the products Keyence sells. Furthermore, a personality test is also required at this stage of the process. A lot of the interview questions are repeated during this interview which shows unprofessionalism and a lack of communication between the careers team and other parts of the company. I was given 3 days to create/practise an entire presentation, as well as prepare for any interview questions which quite frankly is not enough time. Guidance for the presentation is also very limited, I was not given a time allowance despite emailing and asking. All I was given were 2 pdf documents containing the software and hardware manuals for the product, each 400+ pages long.
I was impressed that Keyence held a seminar before the process. I was not given a date as to when I should hear back from them (despite wanting someone to start "immediately"). However, after going through the entire process, putting time and effort into making a presentation with a lack of basic guidance. Keyence did not even have the decency to let me know I was unsuccessful until I emailed them 3 weeks after the interview. It only takes 2 minutes to send an email and I found this very rude considering I reached the end of the application process.
Finally, throughout the interviews it was clear that they were wanting a candidate that could find accommodation close to their offices based in Heathrow. This is absolutely fine, but expect some questioning and slight discrimination if you happen to live in the North or Midlands of England.
Interview questions [3]
Question 1
How would you describe a calculator to someone in the 18th century?
interview online made up of 3 questions where you only have one attempt to record followedby a mechanical test which will most likely be made of some maths and physics wuestion which they said should take 10 min.
