      Marketing Interview

      Feb 9, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Lisbon, Lisbon District
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Konica Minolta (Lisbon, Lisbon District) in Jan 2018

      Interview

I was contacted via Linkedin to attend a conversation (as they said) for an opportunity in the Digital Marketing field. No role or position was presented or described to me, which I found strange but thought they would explain to me in the conversation/interview. When I arrived, again nothing was explained regarding what they were actually looking for (I mean, the Digital Marketing world is big...). When the interview started, they just threw a bunch of questions that I can basically summarize with: "Do you know this...", "Do you know that...", "Have you worked with that..." and so on. From these questions, I then realized they were looking for a single position with the following profile: a specialist in all social media advertising (google, facebook, etc), a specialist in graphic design (for social media posts), a specialist in copywriting, a specialist in e-mail marketing and MailChimp, a specialist in events organization, a specialist in google analytics, wordpress and many other digital tools, and a person with certifications in facebook ads and google adwords. I mean, nothing against this, but they could have at least first explained the position and what they wanted, instead of just trying to prove what I don't know. I mean, I didn't even apply for the role... Oddly enough, in a clear attempt to set me up, I was told that Google Keyword Planner (the tool for keyword research) no longer works, after I told them that this is the tool I use to research keywords for my campaigns. Unfortunately I couldn't confirm this info on the spot, because I had stopped my google adwords campaigns some weeks before. The truth: it turns out that this tool never stopped working ever... and it would be really odd that it ever stopped working, since it is the most important reference tool for keyword research... I mean, it's developed by Google, if Google ever stopped it, it would be the same as saying "don't bother using and paying our Adwords service again...". I just think that someone with so many certifications (as it was the case with the head interviewer), including Adwords, would know this. But apparently it's more important to set people up regardless of the truth. So all in all, this was quite unpleasant and totally unnecessary. We could have easily come to an agreement together whether or not my profile fitted what they wanted. Instead, the interviewer turned what was supposed to be a conversation into an awkward, unpleasant and unfair experience. I wouldn't want to work in such a work environment anyway.
