Query as to time of day works best, you are allowed limited availability. Discussion of work history is helpful at this point. There is room for experience pay but it is absolutely not competitive with area employers, not even close, the majority of new hires (regardless of experience) are based on the last five working years of employment in the grocery specific field. Do not expect an offer above minimum wage. If a wage bump is offered, it will be reneged on and ignored once paychecks are issued. Do not in any event expect the wage bump to actually be reflected on your paycheck. It is pure fantasy.
Advice: Get written proof at point of hire of your expected salary, but also expect that offer to be removed and brought in at minimum wage with a nickle raise once a year.
This is the number one cause of entire shifts turning over inside of stores. Entire crews ( 8 to ten at a time) walk out after a few weeks of disappointment and shorted checks. In turn, the customers must deal with untrained new staff monthly. This must cost the company untold number of dollars and customers, as well as very talented management.
There is an easy fix for this, yet it is not practiced.
A simple web search under the two words kroger forum will reveal a discussion board of actual veteran team members (20 plus years experience and more) and their experiences throughout the stores in real time speaking anonymously. It may appear as exaggeration at first glance, but it is not.
