Interview
I loved how quickly the recruiters work. I got a call from one recruiter regarding another position I had applied. We spoke on the phone for almost an hour, which felt like a great sign. The pay for that position was slightly lower than I was hoping for and she told me to think about it and get back to her. I discussed it with my husband and got back to her a couple hours later. The next morning, she emailed me back and said that she actually thought I’d be better suited for another position that actually paid more! I felt like she really wanted to make sure that I was happy/satisfied with my pay and didn’t want to risk losing me as a candidate. I truly appreciated that. She connected me with the recruiter responsible for this new role and I spoke to her over the phone and at the end of our conversation, she said she loved everything she heard and said she’d send me three customer service scenarios that I would have to respond to politely and concisely. There was emphasis on spelling and attention to detail.
After I submitted my answers via email, she said she would forward her notes and my answers to the manager and get back to me. Within a couple hours, I got a call that they wanted to move me forward to the next interview with the Customer Service Manager and a couple Leads. It was scheduled for the following week because it was a Friday and a holiday weekend. It was a video interview over Microsoft Teams and lasted just over 30 min. It went well and I felt confident about it. A couple hours later, the recruiter called me and said they liked me and wanted to move me forward to the last interview with the Director of Customer Service. That was scheduled for two days later. I appreciated how quickly they worked as some companies can make you wait weeks between first contact and interviews.
My final interview went well and I felt like the manager and I had a good rapport. She was little more focused on the requirements of the position and making sure that I fully understood what would be expected of me. I’ve been a SAHM for the last 6 years so I know there were some questions about how well I’d acclimate to returning to the workforce and working a set schedule under supervision. Neither of those were deterrents for me as I gladly welcome a set schedule and the break from having to make all the decisions all the time. IYKYK.
After that interview, I heard from the recruiter the same day and was offered the position officially.
From beginning to end, everything took less than 2 weeks! I was really impressed with how quickly they work and how they don’t waste time if they really like you, which is smart in a market where a good candidate can get snatched up quickly!
Being that you made your own hours and were your own boss as a stay at home mom for so long, how do you think you’ll acclimate to working set hours and being supervised?

Question 1
Do you have experience taking calls or answering emails?
I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Lakeshore Learning Materials (Los Angeles, CA) in Feb 2022
Interview
There were multiple steps to their interview process very extensive. First step is an email from their recruiter to schedule a phone interview to discuss my background, experience and next steps. I completed the phone interview. The recruiter really liked me. We discussed my background which is 100% fluent in customer service/sales. Every position I have been in I have had a leadership role whether I was hired in, promoted or worked as an entry level employee where my employer granted me leadership roles. So I believe that I was qualified for the position. 2nd step was a written test to show how I would respond to customer service situations. 3 questions that I responded very well and professionally I thought. The recruiter contacted me and said they were happy with my responses and wanted to move forward to the 3rd step. My last step was a virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams. Before my meeting the recruiter set time aside to prep me and answer questions or give me any information I might need to guarantee success on my final interview. I really appreciated the hard work the recruiter put in. So this brings me to my last interview with the customer service manager, lead and myself. This is the first interview that anyone saw me in person (virtually). The interview seemed to be ok but it seemed as if they had a bias view to not select for a reason I can't explain. We discussed details about scheduling. I don't have open availability because I am a single mom and I have to be able to get my child to from school. They told me they could be very flexible with my schedule and if I could be flexible to make training then it would be fine. We also went over the specific role. It might be only phones at one point or phones, live chat, and emails. Both the customer service manager and lead felt the need to explain it to twice. The position didn't sound one bit overwhelming to me and I have worked as a retail manager for 14yrs previously so I am capable of running an entire business so I totally grasp the full duties of their corporate position. Long story short I wasn't offered the position and I am truly upset with myself for not asking the recruiter why. Happy Black history month everybody!
