Overall, the interview process was a positive experience.
Where things became difficult was the offer process. I was prepared to accept the offer with the start date discussed with the recruiter, but I was unexpectedly told that I needed to be fully relocated from Texas to Oregon within two weeks. At no point during the interview process was I asked whether I could relocate on such a short timeline — only whether I was willing to relocate in general.
The hiring manager seemed firm on the start date, while the recruiter repeatedly suggested it was still negotiable. This led to a week of back‑and‑forth where the information kept changing. Some days it felt like we were making progress, and other days I found myself re‑explaining why a two‑week relocation was unrealistic.
Ultimately, I declined the offer because the timeline was too stressful and impractical. The relocation package was decent but not exceptional, and it did not include end‑to‑end moving support or temporary housing, which would have made the accelerated timeline more feasible.
It’s disappointing that the interview process lasted about 2½ months to identify me as a top candidate, yet the company was unwilling to extend the start date by a few weeks to accommodate a realistic relocation timeline.
