I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Lowe's Home Improvement (Toledo, OH) in Mar 2012
Interview
Interview and hiring process was pretty simple. It consisted of an interview with the HR and right after a second with an Assistant Manager. The questions were very basic focusing mostly on customer service experiences. The last pat was an offer from the Store Manager and submitting to a background check and drug test. All in all a fairly quick process.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
The most tricky question was about a time when you promised something to a customer but you couldn't or didn't deliver. Seemed to me they were looking for how you handle that and what you said to keep the customer happy.

Interview
It starts with an online application, sometimes followed by a short 15–20 minute phone or video screen where a recruiter checks your availability, experience and communication skills. After that, you’ll have an in-person interview with the hiring manager covering customer service, teamwork and basic job capabilities, with questions like how you’d handle a price dispute or a short register drawer.

They asked me personal questions like hobbies I do and stuff outside of work. Asked about prior experience. The usual stuff. No questions like what would you do in this situation.
