      I interviewed at Luminar

      Interview

Lead recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn. Technology looks interesting and I am familiar with the space, so agreed to speak with the recruiter. I was told I would be contacted to schedule a call. Instead of scheduling the call with the person who reached out to me, I was told I would be "pre-screened" by another individual. Then, she sends me a long list of questions to answer, prior to the interview (keep in mind they reached out to me). While I thought this an odd way to interest me in their company, I dutifully replied to the questions via email. When I received the call for the "pre-screen" interview, it was abundantly clear the recruiter had not read my resume, LinkedIn profile or and of the answers to the questions I had submitted. So, I ran through my background, which includes extensive, successful talent acquisition for many tech startups. She then proceeded to ask me whether I had ever worked with startups before...I literally couldn't help but laugh, to which she seemed offended...Wow! - this was the singularly worst interview I have ever experienced. I even reached back out to the person who originally contacted me and asked for a follow up conversation. I never heard back from the person and days later received a generic rejection letter.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

This is the list sent to me via email: • How much Technical Recruiting Experience do you have • How much Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) recruiting experience do you have? • As a start-up company part of your role would be implementing new processes, how do you feel about this? • What is most important to you- mission, vision, or core values? Why? • What are your three biggest accomplishments? • What makes you a leading expert in your field? • How do you foster creative and innovative thinking within your organization? How are ideas shared and implemented within your organization?

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to give us feedback. Without feedback, we cannot learn and grow as an organization. We apologize if our process was burdensome for you, we thoroughly vet employees for both cultural and skill match and the process can take some time. It sounds like you have a very impressive background and while the timing and cultural match might not have been right, we are confident you will make have an impact wherever you go. Wishing you continued success in all you do! Luminar Technolgies Talent Acquisition Team
