      Sr. Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Luminar (Orlando, FL) in Oct 2019

      Interview

Recruiter contacted me on LinkedIn and after an initial phone screen by the recruiter and 2 technical interviews with the hiring manager and other team member I was invited for an onsite interview. Interview was typical full day with 4~5 interviews and gave a tour of their facility as well as a demonstration of their Lidar. Towards the end had a discussion with HR/recruiter to talk about benefits and some discussions on salary range. After I got home got a call the next day to talk salary and the base was lower than my current salary but would have been willing to take it given the RSU's would be worth the risk. The stock grants were pretty low. They were also using a hypothetical valuation at almost $1 Billion which I thought was over valued considering not much revenue and still in development. For it to be worth it with the amount of stock grants they would have had to get to a $5~$10 Billion valuation and considering Quanergy and Velodyne were valued at $1.6 and $1.9 Billion with revenue as well as with having the Lidar market dominance I didn't the risk was worth it as getting to a $5 Billion dollar valuation would require much much more funding and more dilution among a crowded and highly competitive industry. Work would have been interesting and challenging but declined or they may have not been that interested and just gave a low ball offer to see if i'd take it.
