      Interview

I got contacted a few days after submitting my CV. Their internal recruiter wanted to arrange a short introduction call. Never called. We arranged another time slot and again never called. I chased after a week and no answer. After a month I received an email to provide a slot for having a technical interview. The interview was with a panel of developers and a manager. It was about a few coding excercises in an hour or so. It went overall ok. I waited three weeks and asked for feedbacks to careers@macquarie.com. They replied saying that the recruiter for this role was notified and they would be in touch. I waited another week or so before chasing and this time no answer. After another week I decided it was time to withdraw the application.

I applied online. I interviewed at Macquarie Group (Sydney) in Jun 2026

      Interview

The process began positively. The technical teams for the coding and system design interviews were professional, supportive, and engaging, and I received positive feedback on both rounds. I was then progressed to the online psychometric assessment, which I completed and let the recruiter know . Unfortunately, the process broke down entirely after that. The recruitment team went completely silent. Over a four-week period following the assessment, my multiple follow-up emails requesting an update were entirely ignored. To then have my application status silently updated to unsuccessful in the portal—without a single word of direct communication after weeks of waiting—demonstrates a severe lack of transparency and basic candidate care. Pros: Great engineering culture; professional and collaborative technical interviewers. Cons: Unresponsive recruitment team. Candidates who invest significant time passing intensive technical loops and completing assessments should not be ghosted for a month and left to find their results in a portal.

      Application

      Interview

I interviewed with Macquarie BFS over approximately two months. The process included multiple technical rounds, coding assessments, system design, psychometric/behavioural assessments, and team interviews. Most interviewers were professional, and the technical discussions were relevant. After receiving positive feedback, I was told I may be a better fit for another team. However, the subsequent team-match interview felt like a completely new technical round. The new interviewers did not appear to have full context on the previous rounds I had completed, and the format included trivia-style technical questions followed by an unexpected coding/design exercise. My main feedback is that the process would benefit from clearer communication around team-match expectations. If a team-match round can include coding or technical assessment, candidates should be told upfront, especially after already completing several rounds over a long period. Overall, the people were courteous, but the process felt prolonged and misaligned between teams. Candidates should ask early how many rounds are expected, whether team matching may restart technical evaluation, and what each interview will involve. I wrote to HR and withdrew from the process because, after multiple rounds over two months, the final team-match stage did not feel clearly communicated or fair to me.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

In what I understood to be a broader behavioural/team-match interview focused on past experience and role expectations, the discussion shifted into Java concurrency trivia, followed by a screen-shared coding exercise where I was asked to copy code into my IDE and complete rate-limiter logic in a REST endpoint.

Got a call from recruiter and then interview was scheduled. 2 interviewers, asked basic questions. Gave a program for fibonacci series and other asked questions out WCF, webforms etc. The tech stack they were asking was a bit obsolete. Otherwise average interview with some questions around authentication and authorization as well.
