The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's in Mar 2012
Interview
After applying online, I was sent an email the next morning asking to schedule an interview. I was required to self schedule my interview online via the employment site. I had my interview today, at 11:00. I arrived early and did not have my interview until 11:20. Apparently, they were hiring people on the spot and getting backed up in paperwork. The interview was very quick, easy. Basic questions like, Why Macys? How would you upsell an item? Describe a time you worked with a team to meet a sales goal and what was your role and the outcome? How would you get people to open Macy's Cards? They then asked me about my availability. Note, if you cannot work weekends, you probably won't be hired. I marked that I was unavailable on Sunday and she had me re submit my resume after offering me a position because HR would have declined it, apparently. So, if you want to work for this company make sure you mark that you can work weekends...then schedule around it after you get the job. My interviewer told me she thought I would do great in a commission based section, I told her I was wanting a cosmetics position, but apparently, they hire cosmetic ladies from their best performing sales associates...so I would have to work another position, then get selected for cosmetics if my performance was great.
Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.
The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
