I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Macy's (Modesto, CA) in Nov 2012
Interview
Applied online through Macy's website for a seasonal part time position for sales associate (all they were offering). Standard application questions followed by an assessment test. Didn't know if i passed or not until I received an email two days later asking me to schedule an appointment at a time convenient for me. It had a warning about times feeling up fast, even though there were many openings on 4 different days. I took the earliest day available and an afternoon time. The email instructed me where to show up and that I could reschedule if I needed.
I arrived about 30 minutes before my appointment time to make sure I had time to find the right place for HR and once I did I signed in and sat down and waited. I noticed other people waiting for what I assume to be interviews themselves and what the employees walking by were wearing all black. Thankfully I had worn a black dress, but I did not know this was the preferred color, so dress appropriately and in dark colors. A woman came out of another room and looked at the sign in sheet and told myself and the man next to me she would be interviewing us in just a few minutes after confirming who we were and pulling our applications. She took the man ahead of me because it was his time and I early. She took him into another room and he emerged about 5 minutes later. This made me nervous for sure. She soon followed and took me back into the same room.
We sat at a modest wood table across from each other and she explained she would just be asking a few questions and confirmed I had already taken the assessment test online and that the position was seasonal. Once that was out of the way she proceeded to ask me to tell her a little about myself and then proceeded to ask three questions: 1) Name a time where you had to deal with change constantly and how you adjusted. 2) Name a time when you had to sell a customer on a product in a way that they would buy it. 3) How would you present our credit card to a customer in a way in which they would apply. She was impressed with my answer regarding the credit card for she remarked I had done my research.
She then excused herself from the room and came back a minute later with some paperwork and she told me she would like to offer me a position. She told me the rate of pay was $8.45 and $8.00 for training. She went on to explaining how the hours worked, the dress code, training dates, etc. She gave me a couple training dates and then she walked me out and showed me the employee entrance and thanked me and offered congratulations.
Overall the interview was quite fast and easy, but I must admit I was surprised to be hired on the spot. I think the best thing one can do to do well for this interview is to study some interview question examples on here, dress in dark color in a semi formal manner and know about the credit card (See my answer below).

Question 1
How would you present our credit card to a customer in a way that they would buy it?
I did a walk-in job interview during the hiring job fair. I applied for the job on their computer kiosk. Then they put me in for an interview on the same day.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's (Houston, TX) in Dec 2025
Interview
Answer first question starting with One recorded video and then followed up with multiple recorded responses to additional questions. Pretty simple and straightforward. Dress up on the top and wear whatever on the bottom.
Was an easy phone interview that only took a couple of minutes. I was only asked maybe 3 questions at most. Questions were sales experience, job history, and what I can work
