I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Macy's (Greensboro, NC) in Nov 2012
Interview
I applied online and received an email a couple of days later to schedule an interview. Did some research on glassdoor beforehand so I was prepared. She asked the exact same questions except the most difficult one at the at the end. Filled out an availability form before the interviewer(who was very nice and cheerful) took me in her office. interview started with a laugh about how sweet my name is lol then got right to the questions:
1.Why Macy's?
I want stability in a job and they've been in business for a long time.
2.How would you get a customer to apply for a Macy's card?
Tell them the process is very quick, they don't need coupons, discounts are loaded onto the card. Card balance can be checked online. If they say no, tell them they can apply online if they change their mind.
3.If a customer needed help finding a pair of jeans what would you ask to help her?
What style does she like, specific color or brand.
4.How would you upscale that into a bigger purchase?
If she wanted a specific brand, direct her to newer items from the same brand. If she likes a specific style jean, show her more in that style or tops and accessories that would pair well.
5.What did you do when you saw a coworker do something wrong?
I was absent from work a few days and a coworker took over my duties. When I returned I checked the work & she had performed one task wrong. I showed her how to do it correctly.
6.Describe a time you worked on a team and what was your role.
Laughed about having too many group projects. For one, there were 6 of us, 3 would never meet. I organized the rest of the group and we made a video for our presentation, 1 of the members who never showed wrote the paper, and we got As on the paper and presentation.
7.Describe a time you were in an environment with constant change.
My first job at an in-home daycare, I went from just sitting with the kids a few hours a day to actually teaching them and keeping records for the daycare on average 8 hours a day. This happened within a month.
8. How would you celebrate a purchase?
Tell the customer thanks for shopping at Macy's and come back and see us soon!
9. Can't remember excatly, but I think it was about making a sell, possibly for a new product.
Educate them about the product.
After all my answers she smiled and said 'good!', but apparently not good enough. I got an email a few days later saying my qualifications and experience didn't match the job I applied for but it does for another job and would like me to consider future opportunities with Macy's. That doesn't help me right now so...
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How would you deal with a person who won't listen to facts.
I did a walk-in job interview during the hiring job fair. I applied for the job on their computer kiosk. Then they put me in for an interview on the same day.
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's (Houston, TX) in Dec 2025
Interview
Answer first question starting with One recorded video and then followed up with multiple recorded responses to additional questions. Pretty simple and straightforward. Dress up on the top and wear whatever on the bottom.
Was an easy phone interview that only took a couple of minutes. I was only asked maybe 3 questions at most. Questions were sales experience, job history, and what I can work
