I applied online. I interviewed at Macy's (Fresno, CA)
Interview
While standing the entire time, the interview was conducted on the sales floor with customers shopping all around us. That was a bit awkward. Question were pretty basic. Exceptional customer service is important to Macy's. Manager wanted to know about a time that I received exceptional customer service and why I thought it was so exceptional.

Question 1
Soliciting Macy's credit cards is huge. Manager asked how the previous company I worked for, solicited accounts. She didn't like my answer because it was different from the Macy's way. I had no problem asking customers if they would like to apply for a Macy's card and explain the bennefits of having one. However, if I'm told "no thank you", I would respectfully accept that answer. The manager told me I would have to be able to a no into a yes every time. She started talking about a current employee who doesn't meet Macy's goals regarding new accounts. It was obviously a sore spot for the manager because it turned into a full blown rant. By the time she finished her rant, I think she realized how badly she embarrassed herself. It was so unprofessional that I was left speechless. It was a really uncomfortable situation. As the manager started to walk away, she said she would further review my application and I would hear something back within a week. I knew at that point I wouldn't be offered a position which was fine with me. Two days later, I received an email informing me of no offer. If I had been offered a position, I would have politely declined as I don't like being rude to customers by pushing something on them that they already verbalized they don't want.
Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.
The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
