      Software Developer Interview

      Sep 30, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Manhattan Associates (Bengaluru) in Sep 2015

      Interview

1 round: It happened at Manhattan Bangalore office. This was objective written test on C# .Net. It comprised of some tricky questions, having multiple choices to select, consisting of around 20 questions. 2round: This was again written programming test. It was consisting of few sections of programming, SQL queries, and o/p and error finding of the programs with average difficulty. 3rd round: It was technical face to face round. Before this round, we have been provided with one sheet mentioning about the project details, that we are going to handle, if we got selected, the position was for production support. We had to mention our opinion, whether we are ready or not for production support. This position was for Manhattan Services department. The interviewer asked few technical questions on some OOPS concepts, basic C# programming, asking about the error and o/p of some statements of program, asked about the summary of my project work in current company, asked about the exception handling, interfaces in C#. In between, she asked one question, that completely diverted the interview, and became completely negative for me and created the conflict as well. That beautiful question was "Why are you looking for change of the company?". I answered "I have been put into some legacy technology(old technology) work, mainly on classic Asp, in which I don't have any interest since it is too old and not in scope in the current trend, and there is no scope for learning in the project. My passion is to work on challenging environment with latest technologies". After this answer, it really created conflict, because next she explained about the work position, and how will be the work, that I am going to handle, if I get selected. She told "It is for our supply chain product development. Our product consists of many components among which, much are developed using legacy technology only. And the kind of work that you are expecting, might not be there here. Because, mainly we fix the issues of customer, rarely propose enhancements to products and don't take the risk of upgrading to latest technology, if that happens in some components, that will be rarely happening. So, you might not get the latest technology work here and no much development challenge also. There will be much scope for learning regarding product domain, but not regarding learning and working on latest technologies, that you are expecting. So, are you really interested or not? If not, then there is no point of recommending you to next HR round". So, I was disappointed, and at the same time I admired her, for telling the facts about the work so frankly, in the interview itself. (Because most of the interviewers will hide the facts while telling about the project work and learning scope). She was straight forward and told the truth!!. Even though, I tried to justify myself formally showing the interest towards maintenance work, I failed to impress her with my answer. She came to know about my disinterest towards production support work. Luckily, I was not recommended from her for HR round, and got failed in the interview. Because, even though I had been selected, probably I would have rejected the offer or would have been in full dilemma to join the company or not, because of my disinterest in production support and old technology work.
